Kaloomte is a book series of historical fiction about key events in ancient Mayan political history.
The first purpose of the book series is to interpret events and present stories in narrative form so that the casual reader can be introduced to the history of the ancient maya.
The second purpose is to translate each story into all dialects of the mayan language so that these dialects are exercised, mayan literature is promoted, and so that mayan words and phrases can be compared between dialects.
The series is divided into two books where book 1 is about the classic period around 250 AD to 900 AD and book 2 is about the post classic and colonial period around 900 AD to 1500 AD.
Book 1: Mutul and the Serpent Dynasty
The first book contains five volumes that narrate key events in the struggle between rival overlords of the Mayan world: the Kan dynasty and the Mutul dynasty.
Volume 1: The Entrance
La Entrada tells of an event when Jatz’om Kuy (Spearthrower Owl) of Teotihuacan, sent Siyaj Kʼakʼ to enter the Usumacinta River and attack a former vassal, Chak Tok Ichʼaak of Mutul, who attempted to break away from the Mexican overlord.
Volume 2: Awakening of the Serpent Dynasty
This story is about Wak Chan K’awiil, his sister Ix Kin, and their confrontation with the ambitious Kaloomte Balam in the light of the decline of Mutul (Tikal) at the end of the early classic period.
